Peek Behind the Curtain: Secrets Revealed!

WE ARE YOUR MILLWORK, MULTI-MATERIAL AND FEATURE WALL EXPERTS!

Hi Friends,

We recently completed a beautiful building lobby project with an all-star team (Shout out to IA Interior Architects, J.Tyler, Gallant and JLL).
Seeing the things we make come to fruition will never get old and I love sharing the final images. But while organizing photos on my phone, I was struck by a few things that no one would ever know about: true BTS stuff! This edition is going to highlight the "invisible" things we do to provide you the best possible outcome.

XOXO,

WHAT YOU DON'T KNOW

(60 Second Read)

Before we ever pick up a pencil to design, we’re thinking about how to get product into the building.  A few questions we begin with are:

What is the truck access?
What entry point will be using?
How wide are the doors?
What is the path of travel to the final destination?
Are there any tight turning radiuses along that path of travel?
What are the freight elevator dimensions?
What are the door dimensions on the freight elevator?

The answers to those questions drive the maximum size of any component we build and inform how modular the design needs to be.  As things develop further, we’ll also start to consider:

How will we lift the piece?
How much does it weigh?
Where can we put pressure?
Are there delicate edges or stress points we need to avoid when moving the piece?
Can we fit a drill into the spot where we need to put a screw?

These last questions are the ones you likely won’t know about.  Those are discussions we have in house and behind closed doors.  Want a little more insight? Below are three projects where we let you in on the secrets!

This island was so heavy that we had to design and build in a way to carry it. Click HERE to see what we did.
This feature wall needed to look like it hid a gabion wall of rocks behind it but without the weight.  Take a look at our solution HERE
These elevator lobby frames had to have integrated support that was cut off once they were inside the building. HERE is what we built.
