The design of this solid surface island was rather straightforward. Lifting the several hundred pound mammoth without damaging the fragile 2cm material at the edges was not. So, we designed a built in but removable lifting system. The island already included a steel structure which was covered in plywood and then finally topped with Wilsonart solid surface. We took advantage by adding removable steel “arms” that screwed into the steel structure. They were used to lift the piece on and off the truck and ultimately into place.
